About

Fields Model is an independent, research-driven initiative established to support the community-oriented development, application, and dissemination of open-source large language models and related artefacts for AI4Math.

The initiative originated as an informal effort shaped by early intellectual exchange between Simon Frieder and Pontus Stenetorp. Simon Frieder has played a central role in providing the initiative with direction and continuity, including giving the initiative its name and broader identity and is in the process of formally incorporating it as a non-profit. Pontus contributed to LLMC, NII-side development with LLMC, NII serving as the first of the Fields Model Initiative by providing compute grants and engineering efforts. Philip Vonderlind and Michal Stefanik subsequently joined to support the effort during the first partnership with the AIMO Proof Pilot to support contestants with large compute grants to train their models.

This collaboration was a big success, leading to a fully open-source model that beat a version of Opus 4.8 on IMO-level problems. Building on this success the Fields Model Initiative is officially launching by hosting the Fields Model Day to kickstart work with the wider community on AI4Math projects.
